This past year has brought on a lot of change & uncertainty, both globally and personally, and I have been struggling to stay motivated to do … pretty much anything. I’ve been spending a lot of time anxious, worrying about what I should focus on, and then avoid those hard feelings by procrastinating all day.
Last month, I wanted to do a reset. I spent April reflecting & designing a path forward. I used this worksheet from the TEDx Talk by Patti Dobrowolski “Drawing Your Future” (printable worksheet).
Below I summarize the action steps & motivations I’ll focus on for the next 3-months.
Action Steps
- Better manage my daily & weekly routines: time-block, set routines, plan events.
- Tackle my issues with anxiety & avoidance. Learn by doing, and creating projects, rather than only studying and over-thinking.
- Build toward a more authentic life; breaking down the silos I’ve built between my life areas. Practice vulnerability toward others & embracing the present moment.
Motivations
Why do I want this? What difference will this make in my life?
- I’m juggling many goals in my life right now: finding work, studying web development, making more art, and working out consistently. I can only do all that by creating more structure in my day & have the discipline
- I want financial stability
- Finding a job. I want to build a career doing the things that I love: systems-centered design, the intersection of art & engineering, social-good technology & entrepreneurship.
- Utilizing my time while freelancing and studying web-dev to build out some business & product ideas. Exploring maker / artist entrepreneurship, digital products, content creation.
- I want to make more time for others, building stronger bonds with family & friends, and form community with people I can relate to.
Books I’ll be reading: “Stop Avoiding Stuff” and “Radical Acceptance“. (non-referral)
